Welcome to another Japanese candy review! This time it’s the interesting sounding Yakult Puccho.
As I’m sure you’ll have guessed, I got these from TofuCute when I did my last Japanese KitKat order.
Amazing chewy milky Yakult yoghurt candy with chewy centre.
Ingredients: Sugar, glucose syrup, hydrogenated vegetable oil (palm kernel, coconut), gelatin, fermented milk drink (milk, sugar, maltose), fructose glucose syrup, acidity regulator (E330, E270, E325, E296, E334), reduced glucose syrup, flavouring, gelling agent (E414), emulsifier (E473a), glucose colour (E129, E102), dextrin, sterilised Lactobacillus.
The pack contains ten individually wrapped sweets and they’re strange but also really tasty and I’m not quite sure how I’m going to describe them.
Let’s start with the texture.
It’s a hard gum when you first put it in your mouth, then as you chew it starts to soften up – and then you just keep on chewing. And chewing. It’s most similar to a Drumstick lolly in terms of immediate texture and flavour.
Unlike the Drumstick lolly though, the chew is almost never ending with Puccho. It borders on feeling like bubble gum.
These have a sweet, lightly fruity taste with a bit of a sherbet sugar vibe and a milky background. I have zero idea what Yakult is supposed to taste like, but I do like these sweets. The taste is delicious (and a little bit addictive).
Overall, I’d say flavour is great – but only go for these if you’re into chewing for the long haul.
