The Weihnachtsmann Kuhflecken and Weihnachtsmann Knister from Milka are hollow chocolate Santa figures! One has ‘Cow Marks’ and the other has ‘Crackle’, or Popping Candy.
There’s not much to this review other than the fact I wanted to show you guys a couple of the Milka Santa shapes available in Germany this year. These are the 100g variants, though I’ve seen mini versions of standard flavours available. They’re based on a 30% cocoa Alpine milk chocolate recipe – pretty standard Milka stuff.
Let’s start with the Popping Candy Santa. Oh dear, he does look like he’s got a case of the pox, doesn’t he? Nevermind Santa, we can soon solve that problem for you! By eating your face off! Mwahahah! Oh my, that got a bit sinister for a chocolate review, didn’t it? Moving on…
Popping Candy doesn’t much care for moisture and the candy speckles on the outside of this Santa had melted a little. I’m not sure if that’s my fault (I carried them home in the rain) or a design side-effect. The melted mini candy puddles on the surface made for a slightly sticky Santa!
But have no fear, his popping credentials remained intact! Actually, there’s plenty of pop in this without feeling like you’re eating a handful of Pop Rocks. There’s no additional flavour here, but just a light popping action that surprisingly just keeps on going for ages after the chocolate melts away.
My favourite ‘munch and don’t think about it’ Milka bar is the Kuhflecken one. Pretty little white chocolate cow marks all over a base of milk chocolate. I wondered how that would translate to a hollow Santa shape… and honestly, it’s not all that successful.
Of course, you’ve still got the creamy, sweet Alpine milk chocolate but the cow flecks were actually more like three small puddles of white chocolate on the front of the Santa only. Poor Santa…
The white chocolate doesn’t really make an impact here, there’s just so little of it. What you’re actually buying is an Alpine Milk Chocolate Santa with a slight paint job. It’s not the end of the world but I think the execution is somewhat lacking.
I still ate him though! Tasty… If you like Milka, that is.
