This is a Chinese product I found in Oseyo, a Korean supermarket. No, I can’t explain that either. But I am glad I picked up this bag of sweets! They are strawberry flavoured Soft Milk Candy from Oishi.
This is an imported product, which you can easily find online with a light bit of Googling (I’ve bought from Wai Yee Hong before, and they have these sweets priced at £1.70).
Inside the large bag are lots of individually wrapped sweets – which is great, because I can leave them in a tupperware tub and pick at them over time. They’re somehow easier to resist than an open bag of non-wrapped sweets!
Pulling the wrapper off one of the sweets I was greeted with a light pink nugget.
To my fingers this felt like a harder toffee, but as soon as it hit my tongue, the heat warmed the sweet up and it became much softer.
Initially it was firm to bite, but it became soft and chewy very quickly. It really took only moments – a couple of seconds and it was properly pliable.
After that, the texture is gently chewy. Though it does want to stick in my teeth a little bit.
As for the flavour? Strawberry milkshake. It’s mild, creamy, sweet but not too sweet and with a gentle strawberry flavour. The strawberry isn’t sharp or tangy. It’s just… strawberry milkshake.
I think the best way I can describe it to you is something like a slightly softer Strawberry Starburst sweet. I like them!
