You know me, I love a prepackaged snack bar. When I spotted something from Bob’s Red Mill in my local Natural Grocers store AND it contained apple, I couldn’t resist. Let’s check out the Peanut Butter Apple Spice & Oats Bar.
We were craving the classic combo of apples and peanut butter when we dreamed up our Peanut Butter Apple Spice & Oats Bob’s Bar, combining everyone’s favorite childhood snack with whole grain oats, cinnamon and organic honey to create a treat that’s as nutritious as it is delicious.
Bob’s Red Mill produce some really nice flours. They make a huge variety of them, including a lovely Artisan Bread Flour that I’ve found works really well. However I’ve only seen it stocked at Central Market so far!
They also produce things like granola, muesli, oatmeal… and these bars. There are six flavours in total, including Peanut Butter Banana, Peanut Butter Honey, Peanut Butter Jelly, Peanut Butter Chocolate and Peanut Butter Coconut. I’ll admit I’ve already eaten the Peanut Butter Jelly without reviewing it – I’ll eventually work my way back around!
Ingredients: Peanuts, Organic Tapioca Syrup, Whole Grain Oats, Organic Honey, Dried Apples, Cinnamon, Sea Salt, Organic Rosemary Extract (to preserve freshness), Nutmeg, Ginger, Cloves.

- Gluten Free

First impressions of this Apple Spice bar is that it looks packed with peanut. They’re not massively crunchy, but they’re sizeable and with a really good flavour.
The bar has a firm but easily pressable texture. Think of it like a Nakd bar that’s been packed with oats. Surprisingly though, you’ll not find any dates in the ingredients list!
Flavour wise, it’s nutty, creamy and much heavier on the clove than I’d anticipated. If you don’t like clove, I suspect you might find it a bit much in this bar. I think it stands out quite strongly, but it could just be this batch? I’ll have to munch another to confirm…
The sweetness is just right for me, but I do think the clove and peanut combo overwhelms much of the apple in here. As a peanut butter lover, I don’t actually mind it, but it’s more a “Spiced Peanut Butter and Oat Bar” to my mind.
I do really like the oaty texture and creamy “touch of porridge” flavour to these Bob’s Red Mill bars. So far I think they’re rather good! They’re usually $1.69 each, but I got mine on sale at $1.25.
