A Beond Organic Blueberry Bar from British manufacturer Pulsin’, found in a German Bio Supermarket!

If you’re a regular visitor to my little bit of blog space, you’ll know I go out hunting for British and American food products. My aim is to try and help Expats in the Munich area figure out where they might be able to get bits of treats and products they miss from home. In doing so, I stumbled across a British product in Denns, a German supermarket dedicated to Organic things. Missing Nakd bars, I thought I’d give it a try!

This Beond Organic Blueberry Bar is:

  • 1 of your 5 a day
  • Raw
  • Vegan
  • Gluten Free
  • Dairy Free
  • Soya Free
  • Paleo

There are 10 juicy organic blueberries in every single one of these delicious fruit bars.

Looking at the ingredients we have: Dates, Cashews, Date Syrup, Blueberries (4%), Natural Blueberry Flavour. This 35g bar provides 166 kcal. You can get the full breakdown on their website.

On opening the packet, the bar has a nice blueberry smell. Initially it tasted like dates with a dash of blueberry but as I progressed through the bar, the flavour built up quite nicely. By the end there was a good blueberry taste – though I’d admit I wasn’t overly impressed on the first bite or two.

It’s got a surprisingly unsticky, soft texture, peppered with bits of cashew nuts. It’s not as soft or fudgy-smooshy as Nakd bars though. And no, that’s not a technical term.

On the whole, it is what it says it is. A blueberry bar. It isn’t quite a Nakd replacement for me yet but I have an Apple and Cinnamon bar in the cupboard, so we’ll see if that’s any closer to the thing I’m missing!

I don’t want to be unfair to Beond here though – so whilst it isn’t exactly what I was hoping for, I do think it’s a good product. If you’re in the market for a raw, pressed together fruit and nut bar, you could do a lot worse.
