I’m a little late to the game with this one – but after spotting a trial sized pack of the Nestlé Lion Caramel and Chocolate Granola, I finally decided it was time to give it a go.

I’d been putting off buying a box of the ‘crunchy muesli’ because I’d anticipated the cereal being far too sweet. The combination of caramel and chocolate is great in a sweet treat, but I wasn’t convinced that would work for me in a breakfast. As you’ll probably know, I tend to favour less sugary cereals. If given a choice, it’ll be something like Shreddies that I head for.

So that being said, let’s take a look at this Lion Karamell und Schoko Knusper-Müsli from Nestlé.

This little packet contained two portions of cereal and cost me 99 cents. The 85g packet looks pretty good, though the reverse side has some noticeable printing issues. No, it’s not a blurry picture and I’m pretty sure it’s not intended for use with 3D glasses!

On opening the packet I was pleasantly surprised to find lots of large, chunky clusters. They’re light and airy, with a decent crunch that holds up well enough under milk. The thing that surprised me most though was the flavour – and how much I liked it!

Far from being overpoweringly sickly as I’d anticipated, the cocoa and caramel flavours here are muted just enough so as not to overwhelm. The little cocoa flavoured puffed bits added a mild overall chocolateyness to the granola, but the star of the show is easily the caramel.

It’s not a strong toffee flavour, nor does it add any annoyingly chewy bits into the crunchy granola (thankfully), but it’s incredibly buttery. And really, really nice. The caramel profile is easily the stronger of the two elements going on here but I didn’t find it became sickly or too sweet. Winner!

In fact, I enjoyed this one so much I think I might actually buy a bigger box of the stuff. Yup, I liked the buttery caramel taste that much!
