The Karamell-Mousse chocolate bar from Ritter Sport.
As always, I’m starting this off with the description from Ritter Sport… but to save all our brains, I’m lifting the text from the English page.
What is it that makes our new variety so irresistible? The fabulously fluffy caramel mousse. And as you can never get enough of it, we have piped our mousse into extra-large chunks, added lightly salted pieces of roasted almond and dipped the lot in milk chocolate. You simply mousse try it. | Ritter Sport
The German language page is over here, for those that want it. Packet description says this is a “Gefüllte Vollmilchschokolade mit einer aufgeschlagenen Butter-Karamell-Creme (34%) und leicht gesalzenen Mandelstückchen (5,5%).” So… filled whole milk chocolate with a fluffy Butter Caramel creme and lightly salted almond pieces.
I actually hadn’t realised the bar contained almond pieces until I got it home. Admittedly I was a little disappointed… It’s not that I’m against nuts in chocolate bars, but I’d just wanted something smooth and fluffy. As it turned out, the addition of lightly salted almonds was a genius move and I was thoroughly wrong to have been a bit narky at their presence.
As always, the Ritter Sport chocolate is lovely, creamy and none too sugary. They’ve also done a really nice job of balancing the flavours in the filling. Everything seems to work together and for me, nothing really gets lost.
The caramel mousse does indeed taste buttery, with a lovely fluffy smooth texture. It was a bit of a relief to find Ritter have successfully avoided the common trappings of caramel flavourings too. It’s not sickly or overpowering, with the hint of lightly salted almond pieces helping to temper the buttery sweet caramel edge. As for those almond pieces? Well they’re in plentiful supply without it becoming an Almond and Caramel filling.
Whilst it doesn’t beat their Cocoa Mousse bar in terms of a satisfying chocolatey hit, I’d say it’s a good alternative for those looking for something a bit lighter in taste.
