This Erdbeersplit Sahne Joghurt is a Strawberry Split Cream Yogurt from makers Zott. I looked at the packaging and thought: “Ooooh, strawberry and white chocolate! That could be nice!” – But was it?
To start with I completely misjudged what an Erdbeersplit would be. My brain had conjured up the idea there’d be a strawberry portion and a white chocolate portion, all prettily swirled together.
As is so often the case with these things, I was entirely wrong.
Pulling back the lid revealed the disappointment of a flat strawberry-pink tinted yogurt, full of little white chocolate curls. Oh. Nevermind.
Zott (via Google Translate) say this of their product…
Fine taste of strawberries with white chocolate splits refined in creamy cream yogurt, this is the Zott cream yogurt strawberry split. Thanks to the crispy chocolate chips, all chocolate lovers can look forward to a special treat spoon by spoon. | Zott
The Erdbeersplit is a thick and creamy, mild yogurt with a gentle strawberry flavour and a light yogurty tang. The taste reminds me of the Müller Strawberry Shortcake Corner yogurt, only without the biscuitty crunch.
Strewn throughout the pot you’ll find small slivers of white chocolate. They add a light and softly textured crunch to the mix but I can’t say they do much by way of flavour. The chocolate bits are pretty melt resistant and I don’t actually care for the texture. It’s a little waxy somehow.
I do like the Erdbeer flavour though. It’s rather ‘strawberry milkshake’ in its execution but I can’t help but mildly dislike the white chocolate bits inside. For me it’s a bit of a mixed success – but perhaps you’ll like it better than I did! After all, it’s not a bad yogurt by any means. It’s just not quite for me.
