Today I’m reviewing something from the UK! As a fan of Nakd products, I’m interested to see how their Cocoa Crunch bar fares…
However before we start this review, I need to get something off my chest: I’m a bit frustrated. It seems that Nakd have just launched a German website and internet store. All good, yeah? Well, not really. I’m in Germany and some bright spark at Nakd has decided that because my physical location is Deutschland, I should only ever be allowed access to their German page. No redirect options – all roads lead to Nakd.de!
Problem being? I don’t speak enough German and there’s no English language option on the site they’re forcing me to use. Google Translate will do it’s best, but it’s really not the point when I know there’s an English language website lurking around in the ether. Next issue? How would I provide links in my review?
I shouldn’t have to install a VPN extension in order to access the website of my choosing. Nope, no… Just no. That being said, Nakd’s customer service rep was lovely, friendly and quick to respond to my emails with the assurance my suggestions for improvement will be passed along. Fingers crossed!
To the food then…
As we’re used to with Nakd, these vegan bars are wheat, dairy and gluten free. Ingredients include: Dates (43%), Soya Protein Crunchies (SOYA, tapioca starch, salt) (16%), Raisins (16%), Cashews (15%), Cocoa (5%), Apple Juice Concentrate (4%) and a hint of natural flavouring.
Our Cocoa Crunch bar is everything you would want in a tasty and nutritious snack with the added bonus of being packed with protein to keep you fuller for longer. This bar has a delicious chocolatey taste with a crispy crunchiness that is absurdly satisfying. Having no added sugar or syrups and only the most honest of ingredients, eating this bar slowly is nearly impossible as each bite is yummier than the last. | Nakd
My thoughts? It’s drier than other Nakd bars I’ve tried and it’s a little crumbly when pulling pieces off. There’s a pleasant cocoa aroma but as far as I’m concerned, it wouldn’t stop a craving for a chocolate bar. Though with 5% cocoa, it might take the edge off as there’s a decent, earthy cocoa flavour.
There’s lots of little crunchies throughout, so it hits the ‘crunch’ aspect of the bar but I think the texture has a tendency to lean towards gritty. Despite the cocoa content, with the texture being drier than I was expecting (based on their other fruity bars) I think it’s missing something. A little more squidgyness would go a long way, as far as I’m concerned.
I actually think the Cocoa Crunch bar smells better than it tastes, though it’s not horrible by any stretch of the imagination. I mean, put it this way… I’d not turn one down and I’d happily eat another, but I’d look to see if there were any other Nakd options first.
