These Bärchen-Pärchen from Haribo caught my eye with the ‘Sour’ and ‘Sweet’ speech bubbles on the packet!
Though when I picked the bag up, I hadn’t realised the sour and sweet bears were actually connected to each other. Bärchen-Pärchen means ‘bear couples’ or ‘bear pairs’!
However I’m not entirely certain how the inbuilt Chrome Translate arrives at this translation…
Hand in hand through life: the new HARIBO BEAUTIFUL PENCILS | Haribo
The rest of the translation is more accurate:
For the first time, sweet and sour fruit is combined in one product piece. HARIBO BÄRCHEN-PÄRCHEN are charming bear motifs in the three tangy-fruity taste combinations sour lemon and sweet cherry, sour juice orange and sweet apple as well as sour currant and sweet blueberry. | Haribo
So we’ve got:
- Orange & Green = Sour Orange and Sweet Apple
- Yellow & Purple = Sour Lemon and Sweet Cherry
- Pink & Blue = Sour Redcurrant and Sweet Blueberry
These gummy bears have the usual Haribo tough chew, but in this case it gives the combined flavours time to smush together. Happily it works quite nicely and I liked the sweet and sour combination. There’s a mouth watering sourness if you rip the gummy bear couple apart (you monster). Though the sourness isn’t as strong as the Katjes Unicorns it certainly matches a Tangfastic.
I’m all on board with the sour lemon and sweet cherry combination. The redcurrant and blueberry is particularly good too, perhaps thanks to the novelty of it. Redcurrant is rarely found on our shores, so when it pops up unexpectedly it gets bonus points.
The combination I’m not so sure about is the sour orange and sweet apple… I would have preferred orange to have been the sweet bear. The apple flavour is good in his counterpart but that’s only if you eat him on his own. Together, the apple gets a bit lost and that’s a shame. Apple’s a nice flavour to use.
So would I buy these again? Yes, I think I would. When you’re not sure whether you want sweet or sour, this would be the bag to go for. With one caveat: Orange and Apple will have to get divorced first. That friendship is going nowhere.
