It took me a little while to find the Baileys Iced Coffee Latte when it arrived in Germany, but here it is!
With living in a small-ish town, it can sometimes take new products a while before they appear on the shelves of my local supermarkets. Such was the case with this new Baileys drink.
I opted to serve it chilled, straight from the fridge and poured over ice. If you’re going for a chilled coffee product, you may as well go all the way!
So what does the Baileys brand say about their new drink?
New Baileys Iced Coffee Latte – a unique blend of Arabica and Robusta Iced Coffee interwoven with milk, fine spirit and the unmistakable delicious taste of Baileys Irish Cream. Enjoy straight from the fridge over ice. Baileys Iced Coffee Latte is an easy and delicious way to enjoy a perfect iced coffee.
On opening the can it smells like Baileys but I struggled to pick up on any coffee notes. Just to double check I shoved the glass under Mr. E3’s nose and asked if he could smell any coffee in there – and nope. He couldn’t. Oh dear. That’s not a good start!
The taste is sweet, milky and not overly alcoholic. It tastes a little of Baileys but the texture is fairly watery and I had honestly expected it to be a bit thicker. Now then, the biggest problem for me – and this might be because I tend to drink a fair amount of the stuff – but there’s nowhere near enough coffee in it. In fact, it doesn’t really register until a faint aftertaste meanders its way across the back of my tongue. It’s not pleasant though, the drink tastes somewhat like artificial sweetners and there’s something not quite to my tastes about it.
I had high hopes but this disappointed me.
Ingredients wise: Alkoholhaltiges Kaffeemischgetraenk (0.44% Kaffee-Extrakt) mit Milch (57%) und Baileys-Geschmack. Mit Aromen (Enhaelt Koffein), Mit Saeureregulator: E331, Mit Farbstoff: Zuckerkuloer (E150b), Mit Emulgator: E471.
So… There’s only 0.44% coffee extract in here to start with and oddly it specifies “Baileys flavour”. Not Baileys, but Baileys ‘flavour’ (Geschmack). Then we get “With Flavours (contains caffeine)”. I’m guessing that’s where the artificial flavour is coming from but… whatever it contains, I didn’t like it enough to finish the tin. I just didn’t feel it was worth the 220 kcals.
