These Apple, Pear and Pumpkin Claws are obviously aimed at children. I’m not a child. And yet, I bought the box because it has feet. Adulting, I’m doing it wrong.
Delicious fruit pieces made from 1/3 veg and 2/3 fruit. Perfect for lunchboxes and a grrreat on-the-go snack.
The website also says…
- 100% Pure Fruit & Veg
- No added sugar
- 1 of your 5 a day
- Same natural sugars as half an apple
- High in fibre
So what’s in the box? Pumpkin, apples, pears and spirulina.
It’s advertised as “build your own monster” with…
Deliciously freaky fruit & veg shapes that you can make into monsters. Get creative, then gobble them up before they gobble you!
So in my head I expected some reasonably thick and vaguely ‘jelly-like’ shapes to play about with. I figured there’d be around 10 pieces in a packet.
This was nothing like what I actually got.
Having never head any of the Bear Nibbles range before, I’d not realised that they seem to work with what I’d call ‘fruit leather’ or ‘fruit paper’.
It’s obviously a very thin sheet of processed fruit and veg, from which they’ve stamped out a variety of shapes. The indentations aren’t always perfect here and some were pretty hard to see, but the shapes themselves were always cleanly cut.
The pieces have a slightly sticky feel and they’re quite firm to the bite. Taste wise, I’m happy to say it’s the apple and pear that sits at the foreground. They’re fruitily sweet with a little background earthy hint – which I would assume comes from the pumpkin. There’s a caramelised flavour to the shapes too, which gives them a bit of depth and is rather nice.
Taste wise they’re lovely on the fruit side of things and I’m fine with the firm texture. I just couldn’t help being a little disappointed with the shapes themselves. But then I’m 33, my opinion isn’t the one that counts here. I’m sure children would have much more fun with them than I did!
