I found these Almond Nut Butter Balls from Deliciously Ella at Boots. Are they worth hunting down, or even putting in your shopping basket? Take a look and see what you think.
Inspired by our love of chocolate and nut butter, we blend almonds, cacao and dates to make chocolatey balls, then fill them with a creamy, nut butter centre. They’re the perfect afternoon snack.
These Nut Butter Balls are:
- Gluten Free
- Vegan Friendly
Ingredients are: Dates, Almond Butter (28%), Almonds (17%), Cacao (7%), Coconut Oil, Salt.
First impressions are… not great. But then what would you expect for a Deliciously Ella product like this? It’s going to look a bit… Well, I’ll let you make your own mind up.
Texture wise, these things were very, very firm. Cut in half and you can see the butter has an oily separation to it. I suppose you’d expect that, but then it also makes the things a little more dangerous to eat. i.e. watch out for the oil drips when you bite into them!
I didn’t think the texture was quite right, if I’m honest. It’s too hard and dense. I realise it has to be a certain level of firm to protect the filling, but it was just a bit too hard for me to enjoy it properly. It’s also got a raw cocoa-bitter quality to it.
The almond butter is soft and tasty, though it doesn’t quite offset the bitter cocoa quality.
At the very end (and we’re talking ‘aftertaste’ here, rather than “still eating it”), the balls had a creamy chocolate quality that I liked.
For me, this would be a ‘miss’ and I’ll not be purchasing again.
There is another flavour in the range: Hazelnut. I reviewed that one over on Instagram, if you’re curious.
