Grab a brew and have a seat… it’s time for a Sunday Catch Up! Complete with plenty of foodie news, snack reviews and my favourite special mentions from the internet this week.

Products & News

  • Antonio Carluccio Dies | Aged 80, the Italian chef was well known in the UK. Thanks to appearances on television and his chain of Carluccio’s restaurants, the name will be familiar to many. If you’re not familiar, head on over to your favourite book retailer and take a glance at some of his work. The photography in ‘Vegetables’ is just gorgeous.| BBC News
  • Wonky Apples | Morrisons has added some frost damaged apples to it’s range of Wonky Fruit. And I like that. It’s good for the consumer to have the option to buy less than perfect fruit and veg – the amount that gets dismissed as ‘not good enough’ is ridiculous. To be honest, I expect to see more of this happening in the near future, what with Brexit related costs on the rise. | The Grocer
  • Naughty Nutella | They’ve changed their recipe! It’s lighter in colour and contains even more sugar… Oh dear, oh dear. | The Local
  • Pret’s Christmas Sandwiches | There’s something for Veggie, Vegan and Meat Eater alike here! And I have to say, the vegan one sounds rather tasty. Now I’ll have to make an extra special attempt to get to Manchester during my visit back to the UK next week! | Bakery Info
  • Nestlé To Use Cage Free Eggs by 2025 | I have issues with this. Mostly because cage free really doesn’t mean all that much when ‘farmers’ cram chickens into small tin cans. Free Range (as far as I’m concerned) should be the only option to move to… And 2025 is such a far away goal post. | FDIN
  • Camel Milk from Asda | Now this isn’t something that I’ve tried before… but I can’t say the thought particularly appeals. What about you? Are you a camel milk fan? Give me your sales pitch in the comments below! | The Grocer

Reviews

  • Mince Pie Cookies | Mince Pies! You either love them or hate them… and if you hate them, you’ll not be partial to a bit of Christmas Cake or Pudding either, I suspect. (You’re missing out, by the way!). So will it be worth taking a detour to Asda and picking up these Extra Special cookies next week? Find out… | New Treats
  • Maltesers Luxury Chocolates | No, you didn’t read that wrong – Luxury Maltesers. Now… I certainly wouldn’t consider anything put out by the Maltesers brand to be a luxury item. That’s not what they’re supposed to be – so what have they actually put on sale? | Lot-o-Choc
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios | Recently I’ve found myself wanting more peanut buttery treats… I’m not quite sure why that is, but perhaps I’m finally hitting my sugar limit? I’ve even swapped to salted popcorn in the cinema! So these Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios are sounding fairly interesting to me. I’d certainly give them a try! | Junk Banter

Special Mentions

  • UK Tea Giveaway | If you’re in the UK and like the thought of winning a lovely red teapot and some seasonally flavoured teas, you’re in the right place! Well, almost. Actually, you need to be over at Gingey Bites’ web domain, where you might be able to get your hands on gingerbread, candy apple or candy cane flavour tea! Give the link a click and have a go. | Gingey Bites
  • Flammkuchen Recipe | Imagine a very very thin, very regional sort of French-German pizza… covered in bacon, onions and sour cream. It looks incredibly simple to make, so head on over and check out Christie’s tasty looking recipe! | The Cooks Cook
  • The Emerald Trail | Whether you’re planning a trip to the Central Eastern Alps in Austria or not, it’s worth taking a look at this blog post. You’ll get a few ideas on how to keep children engaged on a long walk, see a bunch of utterly gorgeous photos and learn something new about where emeralds can be found! | The Sojourn Series
