We’re in December and we’re on the final stretch towards Christmas! (Yay!) I’m also starting my countdown to leaving Germany at the end of January. (Boo!). So let’s take a moment’s breather and see what’s been going on in the world of food this week…

Products & News

  • Coca-Cola Raspberry | This time we’re looking at an Australian product that’ll be rocking up on shelves now, just in time for summer. It could be a rather interesting mix – I’ve actually become quite partial to the Pepsi Max with Ginger and I’m happy enough to drink the Coke with Cherry… So who knows. Raspberry might be good? | Food Bev
  • Krispy Kreme at Christmas | And… they’re incredibly dull. Chocolate with sprinkles, caramel with sprinkles. Blah and boring. Maybe I’m being overly harsh but they’re just not interesting or special… I mean, sure. One looks like Rudolph and one looks like Santa’s belly. But I’m not sold. | Bakery Info
  • Terry’s Chocolate Orange | I’m sure we all hear that “It’s not Terry’s, it’s mine” being uttered by Dawn French in our heads whenever we see a Terry’s Chocolate Orange (no? just me?) but latest reports put the familiar Christmas treat at having risen in price by 36%. Things are getting pricey out there… | Telegraph
  • Supermarkets Raise the Price of Biscuits | Dun dun duuuuuuuuun! (That was in my best sinister sound-effect voice, if you couldn’t tell!) Along with the price of basically everything else in the UK rising, so too are Christmas biscuits. With prices rising by up to a third, it seems your Christmas treats will definitely be costing you a little bit more this year. | BBC News
  • Greek Police Make Arrests for Olive Oil Fraud | Nothing can escape food fraud, it seems. So… is your olive oil really olive oil? Or is it sunflower oil with a touch of colouring? Don’t panic though! This mostly affects Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands and it’s not a leading brand. | Food Quality News
  • Kellogg’s Ricicles is being Axed | As the brand continues to drop the sugar content of their cereals, Ricicles will be making its way to the cereal graveyard. Along the way, Rice Krispies, Coco Pops and Multi-Grain Shapes will be getting a makeover. | Bakery and Snacks

  • Alcoholic Crisps | Oh yes, you read that right. Alcohol flavoured crisps… And there’s not just one variety, not even two but THREE. I’m just not even sure what to think… so take a look at the YouTube video instead! | Maverick Baking
  • Heston Spice Shortcrust Mince Pies with a Lemon Twist | Coming from Waitrose’s Heston line of products, these Mince Pies sound brilliant. Having once lightened up my shop bought mince meat with lime marmalade and freshly cut plums, I could see how lemon curd would work here. And check out that crumble topping! But what did Amy think? | New Treats
  • Hershey’s Gold Peanuts & Pretzels Bar | Being entirely unimpressed with Hershey’s chocolate, you’ll be pleased (?) to know this isn’t actually a chocolate bar! But apparently it does pack quite a peanutty flavour. Curious? Admit it, you know you are… | The Impulsive Buy
  • Müller Corner Christmas Bakery Edition | I’ve actually reviewed the German version of this, which has a slightly different description but more or less the same make-up. At the time I wondered what the UK version of this would be like – and here’s the answer! | A Review A Day

Special Mentions

  • Classic German Cookies | From the author of Classic German Baking (a book I seriously need to purchase in January for my return to the UK), comes a Guardian post with four different Christmas cookie recipes to keep you going through the festive season. Do you have a go-to must-bake favourite cookie to make at this time of year? | The Guardian
  • What to Do and What to Eat at German Christmas Markets | If you’re thinking of visiting a proper German Christmas market for the first time and you’re not quite sure what to expect, this post will give you a great push in the direction of what’s available for purchase. There’s also some lovely photos to give you the true feel of the market atmosphere. | Erin at Large
  • German Christmas Markets: An Alternative Guide | In combination with the blog post above, this alternative take on the German Christmas Market with some really useful information on etiquette. I’d highly recommend giving this a read if you’re new to the Christmas Market scene in Germany! | 40 Percent German
  • What do the Germans Eat for Christmas | Well as you might expect, there can be an awful lot of variety! It’s a great post so pop on over and have a read but don’t forget to check out the comments for alternative German Christmas traditions! | A Sausage Has Two

I love getting strawberry pepsi max in Pizza Hut, I reckon raspberry would be pretty good too!

Strawberry?! Oh wow, the more you learn. It’s not a drink I tend to go for so I guess there’s way more flavour combos than I know of. 😀
